This temple is also known as the fertility temple. It stands on a round hillock of Lobesa valley. The 14th Drukpa Hierarch, Ngawang Choegyel, built it in 1499, to honour the divine madman, Lama Drukpa Kuenley.
As per myth, the Divine Madman subdued a demoness of the nearby Dochula with his ‘magic thunderbolt of wisdom’ and trapped it under the rock nearby Chimi Lhakhang where now a Chorten stands. A wooden replica of the lama’s thunderbolt has been made and preserved in the main sanctum of Chimi Lhakhang.
The temple is located at a 20 mins walking distance from the main road. A walk along the agricultural fields of rice and mustard will bring you to the temple.
